I haven’t actually sat down to write in a few weeks, which is crazy. Lately I’ve been Getting tons of ideas for things to write about; in fact my trusty notebook is littered with ideas. The only problem with that is, when I sit down to write I always feel like I need to write about something else other than a pre-decided thought.
One thing that has been on my mind is darkness. Sounds weird, but its true. The thing about darkness is that it awakens unknown fears in our lives. I’m talking about actual darkness like where the flashlight on your phone isn’t even working and spiritual darkness deep in your soul.
So, I leave for work really early when I’m on the morning shift and the other day as I was walking down stairs with my dog, to put him outside, I realized something kind of interesting. When I was going downstairs I didn’t turn the light on because I was just like nah Ill be fine, but Scoutt wouldn’t go down the stairs because he couldn’t see them. He just stood at the top of the stairs whining till I turned on the lights. That made me think about people and how we function in darkness. In this situation, Scoutt had the right idea. Turn on the light.
Isn’t it crazy to think that we live our lives like that most of the time, just wandering around in the darkness, bumping into life and falling down just to get back up and do the same thing over again. Like, we have a light right at our fingertips yet we choose to ignore it and try to feel our way through, on our own. Good news is, WE DON’T HAVE TO DO THAT; we have this amazing opportunity to just call out to God and let him guide us.
I think one of the many reasons we don’t do that is because we live in a false sense of pride and control. One thing the pastor at my church has said that always sticks with me is, “our control has always been an illusion, anyway.”
Proverbs 19:21 (ESV)
“Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand.”
Isaiah 55:8-11 (ESV)
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. “For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven and do not return there but water the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.”
Right there, it says that God knows better than us. He’s just loving us and waiting for us to realize that he has the light we need to navigate. The best part about that is, he’s not just some wimpy key chain flash light, he’s a lot more like a huge floodlight! We just need to drop our pride and stand at the top of the stairs and ask God to turn the light on. We need to be like Scoutt; just ask and wait for the light to make everything easier to navigate.
Jeremiah 29:11 (ESV)
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”
I’ll leave you guys with that! I hope this gives you hope and helps you realize that you don’t have to do it alone, you’re not supposed to. I love you all, you’re amazing, and have a phenomenal week!
