Have you ever heard the phrase “your value isn’t determined by someone’s inability to see your worth?” I’m sure you have, we all have. It’s all over Pinterest and I’m like 400% positive that if you follow any girls on Twitter then you’ve seen it tweeted at least once in your life. I believe that phrase is a phenomenal phrase. It’s extremely encouraging because it alludes to the fact that our value isn’t defined by any one person’s opinion of us.
The only problem with it is that it doesn’t state where we should find our true value or what our true value should be, for that matter. In the society that we live in we put too much weight on the perceived values that others have of us. Think about it, we feel valuable when we get over a certain number of likes on a picture we post, if 5 people retweet something, or we have more followers than the guy sitting next to you. None of that stuff can give you true value though. I mean, yeah, its cool and in reality it can be a great tool for many things, but that’s not where we should find our value.
I think that the reason we aren’t able to find our true value is because we don’t know where to look. Did you check under that rock over there? Is it in the backpack you left in the back of your best friends Jeep? Did your roommate bury it in the dirty laundry? NOPE! It’s not in any of those places, I promise! We need to realize that the only place our true value can be found is in God, and his word, where he writes it down so we can see it with our “special eyes.” (name that commercial. Haha)
Psalm 139:13-15 (ESV)
“For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth.”
See, right there in Psalms it says that God created us to be exactly who we are. We are so incredibly valuable that he “intricately knitted” us together. What I know for a fact is that, if it was me, I wouldn’t spend my time knitting anything especially knitting it intricately if it wasn’t of value to me.
Luke 12:6-7 (ESV)
“Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? And not one of them is forgotten before God. Why, even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows.”
Lookie there, ANOTHER place where God tells us how valuable we are. He counted the hairs on your head! What the heck, there’s 7 billion people on planet earth and more are born every day, yet he takes the time to number the hairs he gives us! That’s crazy! I mean I value my mom, a lot, but I can’t remember the last time I sat down and just counted all the hairs on her head. In all seriousness though, those are just some examples of how much we are valued by God, and lets be honest that’s the only value that matters.
I really encourage everybody to look up scripture verses about value, and then share with somebody their true value! Think about how we could change the world if people knew their worth! What are some ways that we can show people their true value?
I love you all, you’re extremely valuable! never forget that! Have an amazing week, and go check out jordankranda.com I’ve been blessed with the amazing opportunity to be a guest blogger for his blog!
