Almost Famous // So, You Wanna be an Influencer? WEEK 4
Here it is, the final week, and guess what? I’m going to teach you how to be Almost Famous. No, not Kate Hudson style, which let’s be honest, that would be amazing; I’m talking about how to be an influencer. Over the last few weeks, I’ve covered what influence is, not comparing yourself, and finding your true identity, and today I’m going to tell you how to combine all of those things to be an influencer.
Remember how I told you, in week 1, that you are the salt of the earth? Well, that still hasn’t changed, but I’m going to put it in really easy to understand terms. YOU ARE AN INFLUENCER. Plain and simple. At this point, you might say, “yeah Bridgette, you already told us that,” but hold up you guys. I haven’t yet told you HOW you’re an influencer.
Here it is, are you ready?
Step 1: Be a person
Step 2: Have human relationships
Step 3: Open your mouth and speak
Crazy right? That’s literally all you have to do to be an influencer. You don’t need a platform of 1.2M people. All you have to do is exist and you have the potential to influence people. However, I think the key word here is “potential.” Like I said last week, we allow things to influence us, we are sponges, but we don’t have to allow things in. I don’t have to listen to that podcast that I know stresses me out--I don’t have to allow that to influence me. Yes, people can choose to not let you influence them, but why not be a source of good influence. Why not be someone they allow to pour into their lives?
“Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm.”
Here it is, your opportunity to be almost famous, and I say almost famous, because when you’re an influencer, you’re basically almost famous, right? People are looking up to you. People are asking for your opinion. People care about your advice--You have the opportunity to give them the advice you’d give yourself, the advice that comes straight from scripture. When someone brings you a problem, turn them back to truth, turn them to Jesus.
If I come to you and say “Hey, I’ve been struggling really bad with self-image issues. I can’t get the idea that I’m very unappealing out of my head.” [Which you guys, this is a real struggle I’ve been working with Jesus on this past year.] You have the opportunity to influence me to truth. You can pull up a scripture like Isaiah 62:3 that says, “You shall be a crown of beauty in the hand of the Lord, and a royal diadem in the hand of your God.”
We all have this amazing opportunity to be almost famous, we can all influence. We have this opportunity to make each-other better. We can redefine how our generation thinks about influence. We get to be the change, to inspire people to beauty.
“Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.”
So go out there and know that you are an influencer. You can impact the world around you!
